Australia needs around 20,500 apprentice electricians to start each year from 2024 to 2030 and the industry needs more great teachers to guide them; teachers who can keep the learning fresh, bring current industry experience and thinking into the classroom, and help grow the next generation of talent.
To support this need, we developed the EDGE (Education, Development, Guidance, Empowerment) Program – a supported pathway into electrical teaching, built by electrical teachers for electrical teachers. It’s hands-on, paid, and purpose-built to help experienced sparkies step into the classroom with confidence… even if you’ve never taught before.

What is the EDGE Program?
A structured, paid pathway for qualified electricians to become qualified electrical trade teachers.
EDGE gives you the chance to experience the teaching environment, so you can make an informed decision.
Try before you buy – 2-day sit-in sessions
You’ll join us at our Carlton North or Dandenong campus for two casual employment days where you observe classes, meet the team, and get a feel for the role. It’s your chance to decide if teaching is the right next step for you.
24 days of supported, on-the-job development
You’ll attend classes, shadow trainers, deliver small portions of content, and learn how teaching actually works. You’ll co-develop, co-deliver, and co-assess training programs with ongoing guidance from our experienced teachers. These days are flexible and can be scheduled around your current work commitments.
Gain the skills and qualifications you need
You’ll independently enrol in the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) and progress through it while learning on the job.
Paid while you train
Yes! You’ll be paid throughout the EDGE program while building the skills to move into a full training role.
Ongoing support and real career pathways
We’ll support you all the way through, and when you complete the program, there are real opportunities to step into a permanent teaching role with us.
Who we’re looking for
We’re after electricians who:
- hold a current A-Grade electrical licence
- have 5+ years industry experience
- enjoy mentoring, explaining or coaching
- believe in continuous learning
- bring a positive, team-focused attitude
- want to make a difference for the next generation
You’ll also need a current Working with Children Check (employee version).

Our EDGE intakes are based at our Carlton North and Dandenong campuses, with training delivered Monday–Friday (7:00am–3:30pm). Weekend delivery options are available if that suits your schedule. 👉Just chat with us.
