What is an
IT traineeship?

As a trainee, you will be placed with a Host Employer where you will complete your on-the-job placement for the duration of the traineeship on a full-time basis, with time allowed for you to complete your off-the-job training online.

Trainees support the IT functions of the company they join, and are vital to the productivity of the company.

Employment, mentorship, support

Throughout the traineeship program, trainees will receive ongoing guidance and support from an Industry Careers Consultant.

This tailored mentorship will help trainees navigate the complexities of the industry, develop a strong skill set, and excel in their chosen field, setting them up for long-term success.

This program is designed to provide career opportunities to individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those living with disability.

What’s included in the traineeship?

You will learn to manage the day-to-day operations for IT systems to make sure that the system runs effectively.

Some role tasks include, but are not limited to:

Providing assistance in testing new equipment and systems 
Supporting and managing the network infrastructure 
Re-imaging, programming and coding 
Installation, maintenance and removal of software systems 
Coordinate system updates and replacement of older versions 
Establish and control systems access and security 
Helpdesk/Desktop support – Level 1 and 2 
Customer service – phone, email and in person 
Provide training in system use and access 
Manage stock in relating to IT, i.e. toners, cables etc. 
Liaising with external stakeholders 
Maintenance of website and Intranet pages 
Documentation, researching 
Talk with managerial, administrative and technical staff to determine information needs, data flows and system definitions 
Implement regular housekeeping procedures, including data backup.

Course details

You will complete competency-based learning which includes both on- and off-the-job components under a contract of training agreement.

You will study a Certificate III or IV, or a Diploma, of Information Technology. The qualification offered may differ depending on the type of workplace and business requirements. These are nationally recognised qualifications and completed primarily online with the support of Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and trainer.
